Company activities and impact

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE COMPANY’S ACTIVITIES AND IMPACT Stepping Stones runs the Totnes Food Bank which requires a referral from Citizen’s Advice, a doctor, school teacher etc and in 2024-25 we provided food for 3587 people living in food poverty. We also run a community supermarket in the form of the TQ9 Food Club which allows members to have up to 10 items for £3.50. Last year we helped 2600 retired and low wage- earning people struggling with rising food prices in the town’s one supermarket and artisan- style grocers etc in Totnes. We provide healthy cooked lunches in our 3 day a week, pay-what-you-can cafe which served 5869 meals last year, helping those with limited cooking facilities, rely on us for food, or are seeking company because they feel isolated at home. We have nurtured a positive, friendly and safe space which is valued by a cross section of the community. I addition we run art workshops, and provide a rail of good first/second hand clothes for those who can no longer afford the inflated prices in Totnes’ charity shops.

Consultation with stakeholders

As per last year’s feedback from our Food Bank clients and Food Club members, requesting healthier ambient food and more takeaways, we launched the Essential Project which after negotiation with Essential Trading Company achieved such a good discount that we can buy organic and lightly processed tinned and packeted food for a reasonable price. This has made it possible to offer these goods on the shelves as healthy options and vastly improved the nutritious value of our takeaway and cafe meals. During 2024-25 we did not distribute an official
