Thetravellerstree CIC is dedicated to supporting asylum seekers living in dispersal hotels in Birmingham and the West Midlands. Our organisation primarily focuses on providing creative, social, outdoor, and active activities that foster community integration, well-being, and personal expression among asylum seekers. Additionally, we operate an Information, Advice, and Guidance (IAG) service to assist other asylum seekers who may not attend our sessions but still require support. Throughout the financial year, Thetravellerstree CIC has facilitated numerous creative outdoor and social sessions. These activities have allowed participants to explore and connect with the green spaces surrounding their temporary accommodations, helping them to establish a sense of belonging and community. The sessions also provide an opportunity for asylum seekers to form friendships and express their feelings through various creative outlets. The IAG service has been instrumental in referring participants to other organizations that can address their more basic needs, such as clothes, transport, or data as well as skill building for future employment and integration into society once they become refugees. Overall, Thetravellerstree CIC’s activities have had a profound positive impact on the lives of asylum seekers, promoting their mental health, social inclusion, and access to essential services, thereby benefiting the broader community as well. Many of our participants have gone onto volunteering, study and work after they receive their refugee status.

This financial year, our primary stakeholders have included the Lottery Fund and Migrant Help. Engagement and Consultation Process: Our engagement with these stakeholders has primarily been through collaborative partnerships and project-based funding and participant led initiatives. Their contributions have been instrumental in shaping and delivering our programs. We maintain open lines of communication to ensure that their support aligns with our objectives and the needs of the asylum seeker community we serve. Stakeholder Contributions and Actions Taken: The Lottery Fund: Contribution: ongoing project, Provided funding for our Information, Advice, and Guidance IAG service, which operates on a semi-voluntary, semi-paid basis and supports approximately 70 asylum seekers each week with various needs. Action Taken: Continued to deliver the IAG service effectively, ensuring that asylum seekers receive essential support, information, and referrals to other services addressing their basic needs. Migrant Help: Contribution: Provided ongoing funding for creative and outdoor events at a remote hotel on the outskirts of Birmingham. Provided funding for an ongoing project upskilling project, funding aided refugees and asylum seekers with right to work to get training in working in construction, English classes and general signposting Action Taken: Delivered a range of creative and outdoor sessions that offered asylum seekers opportunities for social interaction, creative expression, and engagement with green spaces, baking sessions and upskilling workshops thereby enhancing their quality of life and fostering a sense of community. Response to Stakeholder Feedback: with stakeholders such as Migrant Help and participants we have ongoing feedback, discussions and insights that are mainly let by participants requests on support and interests they require. Overall, the collaborative efforts with our stakeholders have enabled Thetravellerstree CIC to deliver meaningful and impactful services that benefit asylum seekers and the wider community.
