Year Ending: 31 October 2025

Company activities and impact

In the space provided below, please insert a general account of the company’s activities in the financial year to which the report relates, including a description of how they have benefited the community. Platform B CIC operates two distinct radio services aimed at serving and engaging different age groups within the community. Platform B is Brighton & Hove's only youth-led radio station broadcasting on 105.5FM, DAB+ and online. The radio station collaborates with 100+ young volunteers each year and is dedicated to providing relevant and engaging content created by and for 16-24 year olds who are underserved by mainstream broadcasters. It reflects the multifaceted nature of the city, giving a voice to different cultural backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. Young participants gain essential skills in media production, communication and teamwork - providing experiences which open up new pathways to employment in the creative industries. The radio station works with charities, youth groups, colleges and the city’s Universities to enhance educational and vocational opportunities. It also plays a key role in championing local talent, regularly spotlighting emerging musicians, artists and cultural events across the city and maintains an open and inclusive volunteer recruitment process. Over the year, our online listener and social media reach was approximately 288,000, with around 100 volunteer DJs, Producers and guests taking part. Platform B also has a potential reach of 300,000 via broadcast FM & DAB digital radio. A second radio service, Slack City, aimed at those aged 25 and over, broadcasts on DAB+ in Brighton, Manchester, Norwich and Portsmouth to a combined potential audience of 1,900,000. Over the year, our online listener and social media reach was approximately 800,000. There is a team of 120+ volunteer producers, presenters, studio technicians and sound engineers actively involved in shaping and developing the service. Unlike traditional studio-based models, the station operates from public venues, bars and accessible locations, encouraging open participation and community engagement. Flagship programmes such as the ‘Slack City Social’ and ‘Radio Blah Blah’ in Brighton plus ‘The Sally Sessions’ in Manchester - live chat shows hosted in front of an audience - spark conversations around music, culture and technology, while offering networking opportunities for creatives. The radio station provides a platform for local artists, community organisers and residents to share their stories, music and ideas. It brings together people from diverse cultures and life experiences - fostering creative partnerships beyond broadcasting, while building confidence, transferable skills and meaningful opportunities for all involved.

Our main stakeholders are: Project Participants Volunteers Community Organisations Listeners/audience Project participants & volunteers are central to the station’s operations and their input directly shapes programming decisions, training formats and event planning.
