During the financial year, Self Sufficient Women CIC continued to improve the health, wellbeing and social inclusion of women, girls, young people and families across Camden by providing free, inclusive and culturally appropriate activities. We delivered free women-only exercise classes with supported childcare, making physical activity accessible to mothers and women who face barriers such as childcare responsibilities, cultural expectations and financial hardship. We also delivered free girls’ football, women’s badminton, health and wellbeing workshops, nutrition sessions, community sports activities and fitness programmes that encouraged participants to become more active, improve their physical and mental health and build confidence. Throughout the year, we organised a range of free community events, including our Somali Culture Festival, International Women’s Day celebrations, Eid celebration, women’s health and wellbeing events, family fun days, sports events, youth leadership activities and cultural workshops. These events celebrated diversity, promoted healthier lifestyles, reduced social isolation and strengthened community cohesion by bringing together people from different backgrounds. We also created volunteering and leadership opportunities for women and young people, enabling them to develop confidence, gain new skills and play an active role in delivering community projects. By working with local partners, volunteers and community organisations, we reached a diverse range of residents, particularly women and families who face barriers to participation. Our activities have empowered local people, strengthened community connections and created lasting positive social impact across Camden.
Throughout the year, Self Sufficient Women CIC actively engaged with women, families, children, and local partner organisations to ensure our services remained community-led, culturally appropriate, and responsive to local needs. We gathered regular verbal and written feedback from participants attending fitness sessions, workshops, and community events, enabling us to continuously improve our programmes. Feedback from mothers directly informed the introduction of affordable on-site childcare and more flexible morning sessions. We also conducted focus groups with women from diverse cultural backgrounds to better understand barriers to accessing health and well-being services. These discussions highlighted the importance of women-only spaces, affordability, and culturally sensitive provision, all of which shaped our programme design. Children and parents were involved in planning holiday workshops and family activities, ensuring sessions reflected their interests and needs. In addition, we worked closely with local schools, community centres, and faith organisations to identify gaps in provision, coordinate services, and develop targeted programmes, particularly for minority ethnic women during school hours.
