Company activities and impact

The mission of the company is to empower, employ and encourage entrepreneurship in disadvantaged women in rural and urban areas of India, Bangladesh, and Nepal, particularly those who are at risk of gender-based violence. In mid 2025, the company started to work with a small women’s group in Nakuru, Kenya, facilitating and funding tailoring training and some sample stitching work using existing sewing machines (after funding the repairs for these 2 machines), with the intention to empower and hopefully employ these women once their training has been completed. This mission is realised by providing an opportunity for marginalised women to obtain transferable skills, like sewing and helping them to achieve financial independence. By earning their own steady income they will be able to provide food, clothing and education for their children and other family members. The company purchases handmade items made by marginalised women to provide them with ongoing employment and these are sold in the UK and online through Shaktiism’s own website and through 3rd party selling platforms. The company also uses its surplus cash reserves to make donations to support these communities of marginalised women. In the financial year ended 30th November, the company designed and commissioned (purchased) 6052 handmade items this year. Additionally, 1,653 saris were upcycled and donated to the artisan partners as raw materials for items which were then, ethically handmade in India, Nepal and Bangladesh. This year, the company provided a record 12,596 hours of employment in India, Nepal and Bangladesh, including 32 hours of employment in Nakuru, Kenya. Donations made this year: Donation of 2000 sanitary pads to local girls’ home in Nakuru, Kenya Donation made to Anoothi India to fund 1 artisan training (60 days embroidery and kantha stitching) in Ajmer Highlights for the year included: New artisan partnerships in India and Nepal: Conifer Handmade, Jamarko, and Chinar Valley Arts Continued as a stockist of the Shaktiism’s handmade kantha stitched pouches for the V&A Museum's London gift shop On-site visit by the Shaktiism founder to visit the groups in Pondicherry - India, Kathmandu – Nepal and Dhaka, Mymensingh and Bhaluka in Bangladesh. Consultation with stakeholders

Shaktiism considers its stakeholders to be firstly the disadvantaged women that it supports, and also the Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) that also work to support these communities. Shaktiism’s primary director, Jitna Bhagani, is in direct contact with the NGO heads to discuss their needs and resources. As of late 2025 a second director has been appointed, Laura Rana Engelert, and this change has been reported to Companies House. Some of the NGO partners put together ‘wish lists’ that they share with donors and partner organisations so Shaktiism can contribute money or resources based on these specific needs. The visits in the year to partners in India, Nepal and Bangladesh reaffirms the partnership and allows Jitna to directly engage with the artisans, ensuring working conditions are up to standard and that the artisans are happy. It also allows Jitna to spend time on product design, sample production and oversee the quality assurance process. It also ensures a fair and ethical supply chain with full transparency.

Directors' remuneration

The aggregate amount of emoluments paid to the primary director Jitna Bhagani for the financial year ended 30th November was £312.00. This was not a salary or a benefit, this was the flat rate reimbursement of £6 a week allowed by HMRC to company directors for home office expenses. There were no other transactions or arrangements in connection with the remuneration of directors, or compensation for director’s loss of office, which require to be disclosed.
