The company’s activities will benefit people across London, with Croydon serving as its base. It will create safe, welcoming and inclusive spaces where seasoned photographers, emerging creatives and people discovering photography can connect, exchange knowledge and develop their skills together. Through workshops, mentoring, exhibitions, photo walks and community projects, participants will build on their creativity, lived experience and local knowledge while using photography and visual storytelling to explore themes of health and wellbeing. Activities will strengthen confidence and social connection, encourage people to explore local and green spaces, support enjoyable physical activity and enable communities to shape how their lives and experiences are represented.
Lenses of Croydon’s principal stakeholders are the people and communities it serves, including more than 300 members across its photography groups, participants in its activities and members of the wider community. Stakeholders are consulted through a private social media group, ongoing conversations, community engagement and the monthly Croydon Photography Forum, where they share ideas, identify interests and help shape future activities. Lenses of Croydon also creates opportunities for local people and community organisations beyond its membership to contribute to the development of specific programmes. This helps the organisation understand local experiences and barriers to participation, maximise inclusion and build upon existing community strengths, knowledge, relationships and resources. Every participant’s contribution is valued equally. New and developing photographers have the same voice and opportunities to contribute as seasoned photographers, while people with no previous photography experience are also encouraged to influence the organisation’s work. Feedback informs the themes, accessibility, format and delivery of workshops, photo walks, exhibitions and community projects. This supports peer learning and genuine collaboration, helping Lenses of Croydon remain community-driven and ensuring its programmes are, wherever practicable, co-designed or led by the people who participate.
