RELIGIOSCAPES CIC

Directors' report period ended 31 March 2026

The directors present their report with the financial statements of the company for the period ended 31 March 2026

Principal activities of the company

Religioscapes CIC is a community interest company that helps communities to identify, protect and map burial grounds, holy places, religious landscapes and shrines all across the world. Our charitable services include: -Digital survey, mapping, recording, historical research, digitisation and the integration of records and archaeological excavations. -Safe online archiving of results, products and publications of synthesised and analysed results as appropriate. -Engagement with local communities, relevant authorities and other partners to tell the stories of what we recorded. We give tools and materials for interpretation. And we raise the profile of places and their meanings as appropriate. Religioscapes delivers these services through the application of a cutting edge methodology which adheres to internationally recognised recording and research standards. The first phase involves the creation of an accurate digital map of all religious buildings, sites, landscapes and burial grounds in a specific region or country. During the second phase, we begin a ground survey to work out the condition of each building or burial ground after consultation with local communities. We then conduct a digital survey and record everything to add an information layer on our map. Then, if necessary, we may recommend some conservation actions. In the third phase, we work with local communities, relevant authorities and other partners to tell the story of what we recorded. We provide tools and material for interpretation, in addition to assisting to raise the profile of the places and their meanings.

Additional information

The Directors intend to develop a dedicated UK website to strengthen the profile of Religioscapes as project activity grows. This platform will also provide an accessible point of connection to the Europe-based sister initiative, Religioscape, supporting improved visibility, collaboration and public engagement.
