Promotion of the appreciation of South Asian and contemporary arts through: Creation and presentation of professional dance productions ASTITVA, a work exploring the intersection of LGBTQ+ and British South Asian identities toured to Wolverhampton Arena, Birmingham Rep (2 performances) and The Place, London (2 performances). Total audience of 710. Researched a potential new work, HRIDYAM, with 4 dancers in January 2026 - for unconventional spaces. JP performed to audience of 250 at launch of LGBT+ History Month at Speakers House, Westminster. Workshops to engage the wider community Facilitating weekly semi-classical Bollywood workshops at Bob Jones Community Centre in Wolverhampton with an average attendance of 4. The group also performed at Diwali event at Wolverhampton Arena to audience of 80. Delivered a series of craft based workshops in partnership with Wolverhampton Art Gallery, complementing their exhibitions and UK Shared Prosperity Funding activity. Curation of performances and exhibitions presenting all aspects of South Asian and contemporary arts Annual Diwali events at The Arena (80 audience). PRAVAS: the story of Gujarati Migration and the Black Country 1950-1990 led to joint production with Black Country Touring – ‘Return to Sender’ which was performed 20 times on Friday evenings in August. Audience 2156. RANGILA:South Asian Queerness and The Black Country (1980-2025) – successful in securing funding for project to run from January 26-August 27. Wolverhampton Lit Fest – South Asian voices in publishing, featuring Amber Sandhu (broadcaster), Serena Patel (children's author), Baljinder Kaur (illustrator) in conversation with Jaivant Patel. Reached audience of 20. Participated fully in South Asian Heritage month in Wolverhampton - reached 1515 people17/7 JP performed for 110 people at Parliamentary launch of South Asian Heritage Month in Speakers House in collaboration Bhavik Haria (musician). Empowering and developing artists working in these art forms. Samarpan Mahotsav at The Arena in June 2025 featured Suhani Dhanki Mody (Bharatnatyam), Daniella Zak Varghese (Mohiniyattam), Sundaresan Ramesh (Bharatnatyam), Vaishnav Viswamohan (Kuchipudi) and Kirti Kala Mandir (Kathak). Audience 53. Introduced a music based evening, Sargam, featuring Akash Parekar, a local sitarist is performing with tabla player Harkiran Singh Sahota at Wolverhampton Arena. Audience 24. This will be an annual event going forward. The third year of Samanata, South Asian Queer Commission, provided mentoring and seedcorn commission funding to Jason Patel in partnership with Bradford Arts Centre. New partners, South East Dance joined for 26-27.
South Asian audiences especially in Wolverhampton We collect feedback after every performance through a feedback form and through talking to individual audience members at the show. The feedback feeds into the next development of our curated events or new production. Participants in South Asian dance Through our community classes and the delivery of heritage projects. Local, regional and national artists and companies providing platforms through curated events and consulting with them on how to present their work as part of a curated programme. LGBTQ+ artists The company’s practice and philosophy shared with the wider sector through presentation at Collective Encounters by Yorkshire Dance; consultation with Wolverhampton based group X2Y LGBTQ+ youth group; Became a Co-operative Partner for Wolverhampton Pride 2026. Attendance at international arts gatherings representing South Asian and LGBTQ+ artists – attended Serendipity Arts Festival in Goa, India December 2025. Invited to Ahmedabad, Gujarat in 2026 for a cultural exchange with Sanjukta Sinha Dance Company. Venues where the company is an Associate Artist – Arena Theatre Wolverhampton – mutually influencing programme and supporting them to reach South Asian arts audiences. Bradford Arts Centre Associate Artist since January 2022 – Supporting their programming to include LGBTQ+ and South Asian arts. Other heritage and arts organisations in the Black Country - Wolverhampton City Council Cultural Services, to collaborate to present programmes highlighting the contribution of South Asian communities. Other venues in Wolverhampton – The Grand, Lockworks Cinema. Jaivant Patel is a Council Member of Arts Council England Midlands Area Council. ACE are a major stakeholder in the company’s artistic activity. This role enables us to be part of the development of their overall strategy for the arts.
Director’s receiving remuneration: Director 1 is employed full-time and received a salary of £47,277 per annum. Director 1 claimed £6401.40 expenses. Director 2 received £4200 as a freelancer responsible for their own NI and tax. Director 3 received £4000 as a freelancer responsible for their own NI and tax. The company also paid employers NI and pension contribution of 3% for Director 1.
