Black Empowerment Enrichment & Support CIC (“BEES CIC’) was formed on the 25th September 2020 and provides a remote service model. Counselling/Psychotherapy Culturally aware and appropriate counselling/psychotherapy has been provided using online platforms covering a variety issues, including grief, bereavement, domestic violence, sexual violence, PTSD, anxiety, depression, anti-blackness, discrimination, bullying, confidence/self-esteem whilst providing psychoeducation on various issues (changeable) affecting the community. A range of therapeutic models have been used to maximise and improve health outcomes using a person-centred approach. BEES CIC has contracted part-time qualified counsellors/psychotherapists to deliver online day/evening sessions in line with the BACP Code of Ethics. Advocacy & Advice BEES CIC has providing advocacy support for those needing representation on matters which affect the black community relating to employment, housing, general health concerns, education and domestic issues. BEES has also ensured clients are fully informed and where necessary educated to allow for individual choices in understanding and resolving said issues. The benefits to the community have been relayed via feedback; returning for support with new life issues and recommendations to others, having had a good experience in working with BEES. BEES CIC has also been contributed to advising recognised social researchers on how to better support and understand issues affecting the Black community and improving access and information processes. Befriending With recognition of the increasing isolation felt by many post – Covid, BEES CIC created and an online and mobile space to support clients who for various reasons, including, mental health, physical disabilities; social challenges, were unable to get out into their local communities. Feedback Clients reported feeling supported and enabled and significantly heard. In periods of challenges, they have been grateful that BEES CIC have been understanding and allowed pauses when necessary. Clients expresses that the service had provided them with the opportunity to look at their pathway forward with clarity and without fear. Clients have also signposted new clients that they felt may benefit from the service provided. We have highlighted feedback (with permission) from stakeholders on our websites, where possible. It is to be noted that Black community members are now more willing and able to access appropriate culturally aligned services, the need to maintain confidentiality re having utilised such services is slowing declining. CIC Members It has been enriching to see how committed Directors and stakeholders are in an ever-changing climate, evidencing the continued awareness of elements affecting the Black community.
