COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

SHINE BURY ST EDMUNDS CIC

Company Number: 16251788 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 28 February 2026

Company activities and impact

Since our inception, we have been running a twice monthly support group for birth mothers who are unable to live with their children following care proceedings, with no limit on when this happened. We also support women who are unable to live with their children as a result of a Family Court Hearings. We offer telephone and digital support outside of the support group. The project is ongoing and we want to be able to expand our support to include people who find it more difficult to attend groups. We want to offer further support and to create 'support hubs' in other towns/villages in the local West Suffolk area, particularly Haverhill. Our support group sessions are non-judgemental, welcoming and safe spaces where birth mums can meet each other for friendship and peer support. Each group session is facilitated by 2 volunteers. We also attend a variety of events to publicise our service to stakeholders and the general public.

Consultation with stakeholders

The stakeholders are the mums that attend our groups or use our services. The attendees have been instrumental in shaping our services by informally voicing their suggestions, thoughts and feelings about Shine and the support that they receive. The attendees are encouraged to get involved, to join in with community events, to share information about Shine and to befriend new users to the service. We also ask for more formal feedback through discussion and questions with stakeholders. Once feedback is received, we try to ensure that we act on suggestions eg with activities that they would like to do, and the creation of a moderated WhatsApp group. We have attended events suggested by the group attendees and if we are unable to act on a suggestion, we always explain why and look at alternatives or compromises with them.
