These comprise investment properties stated at cost less impairment (arising from a general fall in values in the localities where the properties are situated). No depreciation is provided on these properties as it is the company's practice to maintain these properties in a continual state of sound repair and to extend and make improvements thereto from time to time. Accordingly, the directors consider that the life of these properties (expected to be in excess of 50 years) and residual values (based on prices prevailing at the time of acquisition) are expected to be such that their depreciation is immaterial.
