WALKING ACTIVITIES SPORTS & SOCIAL PROGRAMME STAFFORDSHIRE (WASSPS) CIC

Directors' report period ended 30 June 2026

The directors present their report with the financial statements of the company for the period ended 30 June 2026

Principal activities of the company

WALKING ACTIVITIES SPORTS & SOCIAL PROGRAMME STAFFORDSHIRE (WASSPS) CIC was established and incorporated in June 2017. The company’s interests are in promoting Walking Activities, Sports & Social Programmes in the area of Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent that are focussed on men and women that are mainly aged Over 50. Primary activities are Walking Football, Netball and Cricket sessions at least once per week for approximately 80 people, where WALKING ACTIVITIES SPORTS & SOCIAL PROGRAMME STAFFORDSHIRE (WASSPS) CIC is providing vital exercise and social interaction. Member’s ages range from mid-30s to early 80s, and it is very pleasing that we are now appealing to many more people who are sub 50 years of age. A great benefit of member’s participation is that the social events continue to be prospering, whereby they meet for coffee, arrange meals and theatre evenings. The Football and Netball groups continue to interact with other similar groups in England through tournament events, including overseas events, which attracts the attendance of other members that take the opportunity to socialise.

Additional information

Organisational Structure and Management of Activities All operational activity is implemented by directors Chris Humphries and Tracey Louise Humphries, with the support of other volunteers. There are no employed staff members at this time. The director and key volunteers meet from time to time to discuss general operations. Face-to-face feedback is sought from members that attend on a regular basis and invited verbally at every activity or social session hosted. During the FY25/26 period, The Director named as Mr. Chris Humphries was registered as a Person with Significant Control (PSC) i.e., the person who, in the main, manages the principal activities of WASSPS CIC. Business Review The Period July 2025 – June 2026 saw WALKING ACTIVITIES SPORTS & SOCIAL PROGRAMME STAFFORDSHIRE (WASSPS) continue to have a strong presence in the community of Stoke on Trent and Staffordshire for the provision of Walking Football and Netball Activities, with both increasing their attendance numbers. Our balance sheets for FY25-26 and previous 4 Financial Years have shown that our financial reserves are always constrained at certain times, and whilst revenue from our member fees increase, then so do our general outgoings for venue hire, equipment, and insurance fees. Whilst we received no funding from donations or grants in this FY, we did boost revenue through the re-introduction of the £10 annual membership fee that generated £760 from 76 regular members. In addition, the Walking Football activity income is boosted by the number of members that switched to a Standing Order payment of £17 per month, regardless of attendance frequency. This is a great help to maintaining a healthy cash flow through the lean months, mainly summer when holidays are taken. During the financial year 2026-27 we seek to change the way in which the organisation is managed, by implementing a new management committee that will spread the responsibilities and accountability for the activities we cover. This is now needed to cover all the bases that are sometimes constrained by the main director / PSC, Chris Humphries. He will work with the new team to improve the overall management and promotion of activities.
