COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

SHREWSBURY ARTS TRAIL CIC

Company Number: 14548986 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 December 2025

Company activities and impact

During the year, Shrewsbury Arts Trail CIC continued to grow its reputation as one of Shropshire's leading visual arts organisations, delivering a programme of free exhibitions, events and creative opportunities that brought artists, residents and visitors together across the town. This year's Arts Trail centred on the theme 'Impressions', inspired by An Ancient Stronghold in France by Wynford Dewhurst, which was secured on loan from Bradford Museums and displayed at Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery. Alongside this, we commissioned local artist Ian Rayer-Smith to create a major new work responding to Dewhurst's painting, giving visitors the opportunity to experience historical and contemporary art in conversation with one another. Our annual Open Exhibition continued to be at the heart of the Arts Trail, providing exhibition opportunities for emerging and established artists from across Shropshire and beyond. With no set theme, artists were encouraged to submit the work they are most passionate about creating, resulting in a diverse exhibition that celebrated creativity in all its forms. The exhibition was presented across Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery and The Parade Shops, making contemporary art accessible to thousands of people throughout the summer. Beyond the exhibitions themselves, the Arts Trail coordinated a wide programme of workshops, artist demonstrations, talks, arts cafes, children's activities and creative events delivered in partnership with local organisations, galleries, libraries and community venues. These activities encouraged people of all ages and abilities to engage with art, whether as artists, volunteers or visitors, helping to remove barriers to participation and making culture accessible to everyone. The company also continued to work closely with local businesses, cultural organisations, volunteers and sponsors, strengthening partnerships that help make the Arts Trail possible. By encouraging visitors to explore multiple venues across Shrewsbury, the project generated additional footfall for the town centre and contributed to the local economy while enhancing Shrewsbury's reputation as a vibrant cultural destination. As a Community Interest Company, our focus remains on creating opportunities for artists, inspiring creativity within the community and ensuring that high-quality visual art is available to everyone free of charge. Any surplus generated is reinvested into future exhibitions, community projects and educational activities, enabling us to continue developing an inclusive and sustainable arts programme that benefits the people of Shrewsbury and the wider Shropshire community.
