The Lewisham Black Voluntary Network (LBVN) was established to strengthen, connect and advocate for Black-led voluntary and community organisations across Lewisham. In under two years, the LBVN has grown to a network of 100+ member organisations and has established itself as a trusted Black-led supportive and empowerment organisation. The LBVN has supported organisations through a combination of grant-making, capacity building and collective action. We distributed 10 micro-grants of £3,000 and provided direct support to 20 organisations, supplementary support for an additional 6 organisations and 4 group capacity-building sessions to a wider group of organisations. A dedicated Capacity Building Lead has delivered targeted one-to-one support, workshops, training opportunities, funding information and peer learning to strengthen organisational resilience and sustainability. The LBVN has also strengthened the collective voice of Black-led organisations through consultation responses on public health and wider community issues, while facilitating collaboration, consortium development and partnership working. Communication and engagement have increased through regular newsletters, email updates and an active WhatsApp network.
PART 2 – CONSULTATION WITH STAKEHOLDERS – A “stakeholder” is any person or organisation affected by the company’s activities. Please indicate who the company’s stakeholders are; how the stakeholders have been consulted and what action has the company taken in response to feedback from its consultations. If there has been no consultation you must state ‘There has been no stakeholder consultation held’. LBVN's primary stakeholders are Black-led voluntary and community organisations in Lewisham, our members and supporters, local residents, statutory partners, local businesses and voluntary sector organisations working to improve outcomes for Black communities. Throughout the year, LBVN has consulted stakeholders through network meetings, community events, partnership meetings, workshops, consultations and regular communication channels, including newsletters, email distribution lists and WhatsApp groups. We have also engaged with public bodies, local businesses and community organisations to better understand both immediate and long-standing issues affecting Black communities in Lewisham. Feedback consistently highlighted the need for greater organisational support, improved access to funding, stronger partnership working, increased representation in decision-making, and better coordination between organisations. In response, LBVN provided micro-grants and targeted capacity-building support, facilitated collaboration and referral pathways between organisations, strengthened advocacy through consultation responses on public health and community issues, and expanded opportunities for information sharing and peer support across our growing network of over 100 member organisations. This work was delivered in partnership with organisations including Lewisham Council, South East London ICB, Lewisham Local, AfCD, Mabadiliko and KINARAA, helping to strengthen Black-led infrastructure, increase representation, and improve outcomes for Black communities across Lewisham.
