Company activities and impact

During the company's first year of operation, Empowering the Youth CIC was primarily focused on establishing the organisation, developing relationships within the local community and securing funding to enable its youth services to develop on a sustainable basis. Although the CIC did not receive external funding during the reporting period, its directors and volunteers undertook activities on a voluntary basis for the benefit of young people within Nottingham. This included delivering voluntary workshops and engaging directly with young people to provide guidance, mentoring and personal development support. The workshops and engagement activities were intended to provide young people with a positive and supportive environment in which they could develop confidence, communication and life skills, discuss challenges affecting them and receive encouragement towards education, employment and positive participation within their community. Alongside the direct voluntary activities, the CIC spent its first year developing its future programmes, establishing community relationships and applying for external funding. This preparatory work was undertaken to enable the organisation to expand the support available to young people and establish a sustainable programme of community-based youth provision. The community therefore benefited during the company's initial year both from the voluntary workshops and support provided directly to young people and from the development of an organisation specifically established to improve opportunities and outcomes for young people within the local community.
