CUMBERNAULD ALTERNATIVE NETWORK CIC

Directors' report period ended 30 September 2025

The directors present their report with the financial statements of the company for the period ended 30 September 2025

Principal activities of the company

Cumbernauld Alternative Network CIC develops practical, creative and socially connected activities for the benefit of people in Cumbernauld and surrounding communities. Its work combines reuse, repair, making, shared food and community participation, with an emphasis on reducing isolation, building skills and making optimal use of resources.

Additional information

Prior-year correction The 2024 comparative has been restated because £2,496 due from North Lanarkshire Council at 30 September 2024, reimbursing employee costs already incurred in that year under the Parent Work Placements grant, was omitted from the filed balance sheet. The amount was received on 30 October 2024. The restatement therefore recognises both the 2024 grant income and a year-end debtor, and removes the cash receipt from 2025 income.

Notes to the Financial Statements

for the Period Ended 30 September 2025

  • 1. Accounting policies

    Basis of measurement and preparation

These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102

    Turnover policy

Turnover represents income from the provision of services and other trading activities, excluding grant income. Turnover is recognised when the company has provided the relevant goods or services, the amount can be measured reliably and it is probable that the economic benefits will flow to the company. Grant income is accounted for separately in accordance with the company's grant income recognition policy.

    Tangible fixed assets depreciation policy

Tangible fixed assets are stated at cost less accumulated depreciation and any impairment. Depreciation is provided on a straight-line basis at 25% per annum on the company's existing equipment, so as to write off its cost over its estimated useful economic life of four years. Individual equipment purchases costing less than £500 are normally charged to expenditure rather than capitalised, unless they form part of a larger capital project.

    Other accounting policies

Grant income Grant income is recognised when the company has reasonable assurance that it will comply with the conditions attaching to the grant and that the grant will be received. Grant income is recognised separately from turnover. Where grant funding is restricted to a particular project or purpose, the company separately identifies the amount of funds remaining committed to that purpose. Amounts receivable in respect of expenditure incurred before the reporting date are recognised as accrued income where entitlement has arisen

COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

CUMBERNAULD ALTERNATIVE NETWORK CIC

Company Number: SC710919 (Scotland)

Year Ending: 30 September 2025

Company activities and impact

Cumbernauld Alternative Network CIC develops practical, creative and socially connected activities for the benefit of people in Cumbernauld and surrounding communities. Its work combines reuse, repair, making, shared food and community participation, with an emphasis on reducing isolation, building skills and making optimal use of resources. During the year the company continued community activity and developed further funded work. Grant support received during the year included £2,970 from the Corra Foundation for the Try Together project and £9,998 from Awards for All for Made With Intent / Make Stew & Mend. The company also generated earned income, including £2,380 for external commissions ( festival decor work and community arts workshops delivered for third parties). All of our grant funded work, and our commissions involve a wide range of community members who benefit from new skills, new friends, less isolation and lots of laughter. We're really proud of the little community we've begun to build and can't wait to expand in line with our ambitions.

Consultation with stakeholders

Our activities revolve around constant conversation. We sew and share. Through this process we naturally discuss ideas to adapt and improve projects and it is these conversations through which the projects have continued to grow and evolve. We gather feedback through more formal means such as surveys, and use these as evidence for funder reports, but we find that this format rarely teases out the more nuanced understandings gained by spending sustained periods of time in each other's company in the low pressure context of having a creative task to focus on. Conversations have resulted in changes ranging from the type of materials sourced to the times of sessions.
