Purchase and ownership of the Land formerly known as the Yarmouth Primary School, allowing the Isle of wight Council to retain land for Affordable housing. The major part of the site was let to the Maritime Archaeology Trust, a charity, for the prupose of having a permanent exhibition of maritime artefacts, and to explain Yarmouth’s part of maritime history. Also there would be plans to use the buildings for other community uses. The Trust has already attracted around 30 volunteers to work together on the project. Another part of the site is reserved for the use of Scouts and Guides, and there have been meetings with local Scouting and Guide associations. The museum and exhibitions will provide some employment to people of Yarmouth ( Isle of Wight) and attract visitors who will benefit other commercial activities in the town.
We made a presentation to the Yarmouth Town Council , who have appointed a representative to attend our meetings who provides updates. We have reported to the Yarmouth Town Trust who have appointed its chairman to be a director, and who reports to that Trust. Many of the volunteers at the old school buildings live in Yarmouth. There were open days on May 23-24th 2026 which requested visitors to comment on the ideas for the maritime centre. The Maritime Archaeology Trust will be consulting the community on building extension plans once finalised. Our directors have had a number of emails and meetings with leaders of the local Scouts and Guides Associations and remain in contact over plans.
No remuneration was received
