BROOME ISLAND COMMUNITY INTEREST COMPANY

Directors' report period ended 30 April 2026

The directors present their report with the financial statements of the company for the period ended 30 April 2026

Principal activities of the company

Broome Island CIC continues to provide access to adventurous activities and outdoor education through the stewardship of the Broome Island site. The company works in partnership with community and youth organisations to make outdoor learning accessible to a wide demographic, particularly young people in Leicestershire. For the financial year ended in 2026 the company has for the first time made a small surplus which was the first time in its history. While this is surplus it is reversing a trend which the directors expect will likely continue. The company’s short term liquidity has improved significantly on the prior year allowing for significant operational flexibility. While financial performance is still partly reliant on some key clients, the board is working hard to dilute this risk. For next year the reduction of long term financial liabilities will be a priority whereas in the current year these has increased 1%. Broome Island CIC has successfully pivoted to becoming an activities provider rather than just an accommodation provider. Successfully recognition as a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme Approved Activity Provider has been huge achievement. The company has also made significant steps to becoming a delivery partner for Paddle UK. The company remains committed to working with the local community to provide excellent facilities and experiences for our users. The launch of the Paddle Beyond brand has been well received and continues to provide revenue to support the company’s core mission, enabling further investment in facilities and equipment, and supporting the delivery of affordable or free expedition opportunities to young people. In the coming year, the company will expand on the success of the current year, focusing on improving revenue growth, expanding the offer and investing in assets that will improve the facilities and experiences the organisation can offer.
