DR JOHNSON'S HOUSE TRUST LIMITED

Notes to the Financial Statements

for the Period Ended 31 March 2026

  • 1. Accounting policies

    Basis of measurement and preparation

These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102

    Turnover policy

All income is recognised when receivable by the Trust. This includes any related Gift Aid.

    Tangible fixed assets depreciation policy

Tangible fixed assets held for continuing use by the Trust are recorded at original cost, or in the case of donated assets, at a valuation. Heritage assets are not revalued as it is considered that any valuation would be very subjective and the cost of valuation would outweigh any benefit received. Heritage assets form part of the permanent endowment of the Trust and cannot be disposed of. No depreciation is charged on heritage assets as it is the intention of the trustees to ensure these are maintained to the highest standard and their residual value will be in excess of cost. Depreciation of other fixed assets is provided in order to write off the cost or valuation less any residual value of each asset evenly over its estimated useful life of four years on the straight line basis.

    Intangible fixed assets amortisation policy

Heritage assets are not revalued as it is considered that any valuation would be very subjective and the cost of valuation would outweigh any benefit received.

    Valuation information and policy

Tangible fixed assets held for continuing use by the Trust are recorded at original cost, or in the case of donated assets, at a valuation. Heritage assets are not revalued as it is considered that any valuation would be very subjective and the cost of valuation would outweigh any benefit received. Heritage assets form part of the permanent endowment of the Trust and cannot be disposed of. A register of all heritage assets held by the Trust is available and the assets themselves are accessible to the public.

    Other accounting policies

Expenditure policy: Expenditure is recognised on an accruals basis as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to the expenditure , it is probable that settlement will be required and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure includes any VAT which cannot be fully recovered.
