Company activities and impact

During the financial year 24/25 conducted a programme of performances and community outreach programmes, delivering access to the arts in different ways to over 1000 community members in Thamesmead and Abbey Wood. Performances Workshops - Working with Create for Bexley, We delivered free and subsidised performance classes to the community from ages 4-60s. These were part of getting more art and culture into the borough of Bexley. Productions - Summer show: Little Faith A historical show about the history of Lesnes Abbey was brought to the community in partnerships with local schools to get more children to the theatre whilst educating them on the history of the area, we had over 300 school children to the performances which were free, and 150 local residents who were 30’s + on a separate performance. Autumn Show : Goblin Of Lesnes Working with local libraries and Bexley council we will bring this autumn show to 3 community sites in the borough of Bexley as part of Bexley Light Festival. Community Outreach Programmes - Free tickets are distributed in our community for those who would not be able to afford to attend the theatre without assistance. Schools Outreach: Running alongside each production we facilitate and fund a school outreach programme through which schools participate in an art project themed around the production. These artworks are then displayed at the theatre during the run of the respective shows. Menteeship Programme: During the Summer programme we run a free menteeship programme for local residents who are interested in a career in the arts.

Consultation with stakeholders

The Ruined Theatre’s key stakeholders are the community within which it is based (Thamesmead and Abbey Wood) and the organisations that we work with (Bexley, Lesnes Woods, Peabody etc and Schools). Community: At the conclusion of all of our productions we conduct surveys of our audience members to see how we can best improve the theatre that we bring to their area. This includes seeking suggestions for future productions, asking about areas for improvement and finding out what works well about what we do. We have looked at both scheduling and contact as a result of these surveys. Organisations: At the conclusion of each season the company sits down with all of our stakeholder organisations to discuss what worked well and what didn’t during the season. In response to these meetings we have amended timing of certain aspects of the programme and fine tuned the process of recruiting members of the community for some of the outreach programmes, such as the free ticket scheme and menteeship programme. We also collaborate with stakeholders to design and plan upcoming shows to ensure that they are accessible to as many members of the community as possible.
