Eledel MG CIC exists to promote healthier communities through the production of fresh, locally grown microgreens, encouraging sustainable food systems, improving nutrition and delivering food education. Throughout the financial year, the company remained committed to its community benefit objectives despite the director taking maternity leave for a significant proportion of the year. While this period inevitably reduced the company’s capacity to deliver some planned activities and attend community events, the business continued to operate by maintaining regular orders with a local cafe. This ensured continuity of service and ongoing access to fresh, nutritious produce within the community. During the financial year, the company's activities benefited the community in the following ways: - local farmers' markets were attended before maternity leave, where members of the public received information about the nutritional benefits of microgreens, healthy eating and sustainable food production; - participation in the Infrastructure Support Fund (ISF) Programme strengthened the company's business planning, marketing, funding strategy and future community engagement, helping to ensure its long-term sustainability; - completion of the Plant-based Food Accelerator Programme supported the development of a healthy microgreen pesto product, with a £1,300 Good Food in Greenwich grant awarded to fund further product development and laboratory testing; - relationships were developed with local organisations, cafes, food businesses and community groups, creating opportunities for future educational workshops, partnerships and wider access to healthy local food.
The company's stakeholders include local residents, families and children, schools and educational organisations, restaurants, cafes and food businesses, customers at local farmers' markets, community organisations, local authorities, suppliers, and organisations promoting healthy eating and sustainable food production. Stakeholder consultation takes place through conversations with customers at farmers' markets, networking events, discussions with local businesses, feedback received through social media and direct conversations with community organisations. Feedback has shown strong interest in increasing access to locally grown nutritious food, educational workshops, children's healthy eating initiatives and sustainable food production. This feedback has informed the company's future business plans, educational programme development, marketing strategy and ongoing product development, including the microgreen pesto project. The company intends to expand stakeholder consultation further as activities increase following the director's return from maternity leave.
