We have been in receipt of two grants which have enabled us to provide subsidised classes, 2 day retreats, 2 community film club meetings a month. We have led: 6 Bread Baking Classes 1 Easter Baking Class 1 Easter Crafting Class 1 Spring Wellbeing Retreat Day 1 Autumn Wellbeing Retreat Day 8 Meditation Classes We have launched the Mitcham Community Film Club with two film shows a month. We have had 119 attendees age range from 40 – 89. Each class has been led by a local facilitator in a beautiful, well-appointed and accessible building. The classes were designed to offer a new skill or experience. The average age of attendees was 40 – 75. The feedback from students was that it was wonderful to have something local, within walking distance, affordable, especially as many were pensioners. They appreciated learning a skill such as baking bread so that they could attempt to do this at home. For many attendees, it was a great opportunity to get out of the house and alleviate isolation and loneliness. They meet new people and make new friends. Our classes were designed to be easy, approachable, and to encourage people to try something new. The retreat day and the meditation classes were offered to fill a local gap in Mitcham. Many of these types of offerings can be very expensive, so our fees made them affordable due to the grant subsidy. The response to these wellbeing events was extremely positive, and we had waiting lists for classes booked later in the year for everything. The feedback surveys and forms have given us 100% positive feedback. Our classes have grown, and we are consistently oversubscribed. We believe we continue to achieve our aim in providing affordable, local, friendly and interesting classes. Due to the popularity of the wellbeing aspect of our work we added Wellbeing into our CIC name to emphasise that important content. We launched the Mitcham Community Film Club in September 2024 with huge support from the local Council and residents. Our aim was to provide affordable local cinema showings in Mitcham, which is an area of deprivation and has next to no nighttime entertainment. With two shows a month, one matinee and one evening performance, we have again made a project that offers an opportunity for the elderly to get out and about and meet new people. We are planning a new series of Women specific weekly meetings with a different theme or activity each week. We are also awaiting confirmation of funding to run 3 market/festivals in the town centre that incorporates local bushiness and entrepreneurs, makers, crafters, and recycled goods. Importantly we have also provided employment opportunities for local facilitators/teachers and holistic practitioners. We have also benefitted from volunteers assisting us too.
