COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

URBAN MISSION SCHOOLS & COMMUNITY C.I.C.

Company Number: 06429083 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 August 2025

Company activities and impact

During the financial year ended 31 August 2025, Urban Mission Schools & Community (UMSC) continued to provide clear and measurable benefits to the community by delivering specialist educational support to vulnerable young people aged 11–16. UMSC exists to support students who are unable to thrive in mainstream education due to emotional challenges, complex home circumstances, behavioural difficulties, or academic struggles. Many of the young people supported during the year had experienced suspension or exclusion, placing them at significant risk of long-term disengagement from education and society. The company’s activities have benefited the community by:- Providing a safe, structured, and therapeutic learning environment as an alternative to exclusion pathways, including Pupil Referral Units -Supporting young people to re-engage with education, develop self-confidence, and improve behaviour-Enabling students to identify and develop their individual strengths, skills, and future aspirations-Promoting personal responsibility, resilience, integrity, and positive character development -Supporting reintegration into mainstream education or progression into further opportunities where appropriate These outcomes directly reduce social exclusion and improve life chances, benefiting not only individual students but also the wider community by fostering more engaged, capable, and responsible young people. UMSC worked in partnership with local schools, the London Borough of Lewisham, and neighbouring authorities, receiving referrals and supporting communities both locally and beyond. The organisation also engaged parents, carers, and guardians, recognising the importance of a holistic, family-inclusive approach to achieving sustainable positive outcomes. In response to community needs, particularly during the cost-of-living crisis, UMSC provided additional support to families, including grocery vouchers for those most affected. Food provision was also supported through the Barley Loaves distribution initiative, extending the company’s impact beyond education into wider community welfare. The company further contributed to community cohesion and outreach by engaging with young people at key public events, including the Notting Hill Carnival, ensuring access to support for marginalised groups who may otherwise be hard to reach. All income and any surplus generated by UMSC were reinvested to deliver and improve services for the community. This included funding staff, facilities, and enhanced provision such as counselling, therapeutic support, and free school meals, which go beyond statutory funding requirements. Looking ahead, the company aims to further increase its community benefit by reintroducing after-school and holiday provision, subject to available funding, to provide continued support and safe spaces outside of term time. Through these activities, UMSC has demonstrably delivered sustained and meaningful benefits to the community during the year.
