COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

LUCERNA MAGIC LANTERN WEB RESOURCE COMMUNITY INTEREST COMPANY

Company Number: 10475185 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 30 November 2025

Company activities and impact

Our activities during this reporting year were once again severely limited by shortage of available time among our directors. One of our founding directors retired at the end of our previous reporting year and has not yet been replaced. We have continued to foster contacts with colleagues in educational institutions and voluntary organisations, particularly the Magic Lantern Society, but in the absence of significant additional commitments of time and finance our activities still remain at a ‘ticking over’ steady state. Within those limitations we again continued some small-scale maintenance and development work on our web resource. There was some further addition of digital images of lantern slides, digitisation of contemporary lantern and slide catalogues and manuals (again in collaboration with the Magic Lantern Society) and some minor improvements to the layout and functionality of aspects of the website.

Consultation with stakeholders

The Company's stakeholders are a diverse group in all parts of the world, including academic and private researchers, collectors, performers, historians and lay people with an interest in some area of the history and usage of the magic lantern. The latter group covers many different interests including family history, local history and particular subject interests (transport, religion, art, geography, natural history...). Our consultations with stakeholders are ongoing and mainly informal, consisting of presentations and conversations at meetings of the Magic Lantern Society, presentations at academic symposia and conferences, and contacts via email and from the contact function of our web resource. In the year 2024-25 we continued our active participation in meetings, conferences and workshops. Direct discussion, both online and in person, remains the best way of learning the requirements of our community in order to enhance the functions of our web resource.
