Notes to the Financial Statements

for the Period Ended 31 March 2026

  • 1. Accounting policies

    Basis of measurement and preparation

These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102

    Turnover policy

Turnover is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable, net of discounts and value added taxes. Turnover includes revenue earned from the sale of goods and from the rendering of services.

    Tangible fixed assets depreciation policy

All fixed assets are initially recorded at cost. Property, plant and equipment is used in the company's principal activity for the production and supply of goods or for administrative purposes and is stated in the balance sheet under the historic cost model. This model requires the assets to be stated at cost less amounts in respect of depreciation and less any accumulated impairment losses. Depreciation is calculated so as to write off the cost of an asset, less its estimated residual value (which is the expected amount that would currently be obtained from disposal of an asset, after deducting the estimated costs of disposal, if the asset were already of the age and in the condition expected at the end of its useful life), over the useful economic life of the respective asset as follows: Plant and machinery - 4 years straight line

COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

MEDRAU MAINDEE MAKERS CIC

Company Number: 16490277 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 March 2026

Company activities and impact

The company runs Newport Makerspace (Creudy Casnewydd), a shared workshop that aims to benefit the community by improving access to and literacy in fabrication, and by providing a social meeting space for those with an interest, hobby or practice in making. The makerspace opened for business in 2021, and incorporated as a CIC in 2025. During the financial year 2025-2026, the makerspace’s activities have benefited the community in the following ways: Local residents (particularly those of a lower socio-economic status) have been able to gain access to a workshop and tools that they would otherwise not have been able to Training workshops have been run to train community members in skills like dressmaking Small-scale local producers have been able to create products to sell by using tools in the makerspace The makerspace has acted as a “third space”, away from the home and work where members of the community can meet, learn, create and play in a shared environment

Consultation with stakeholders

The company’s stakeholders are residents of and visitors to Maindee in Newport and the surrounding area. We ask for feedback from members of the makerspace during our AGM. We also keep a “suggestions box” for members to provide anonymous comments questions and/or concerns regarding the makerspace. For example, we received a request for additional lathe tooling which was then purchased and made available in the makerspace. We also purchased a new 3d printer on subscriber recommendation. We send representatives to circular Newport meetings, and organise group activities/workshops in order to engage with other community members and work with arts and sustainability focussed groups in the local area.
