Friends of CCU CIC is Central Credit Union’s “Good Cause” arm, established to benefit the wider communities across the Credit Union’s Common Bond. The Company’s principal activity is operating the Good Cause Lottery, through which Central Credit Union members purchase tickets from £1 per month (up to 10 tickets), with 50% of ticket sales retained as prize money and 50% donated to a good cause nominated by members. Central Credit Union administers the lottery on the Company’s behalf. During the year, donations were made to a number of local good causes nominated by members, including Dignity Morris Dancers, SOAR (Signs of a Rainbow CIC), Leah’s Little Sunflowers, Diamonique Morris Dancers and Love Jasmine, totalling approximately £2,500. Through this activity, the Company created benefit for those affected by socio-economic deprivation and supported the positive development of the wider community, particularly recognising causes that often miss out on wider or traditional funding
The Company’s principal stakeholders are Central Credit Union’s members, who fund the Good Cause Lottery. Stakeholders are consulted through the lottery process itself: members are invited to suggest local causes or charities to receive donations, and these suggestions are reviewed before a good cause is selected and awarded funding each month.
