1. Summary of significant accounting policies

1.1 General information and basis of preparation
Wester Dawyck
Stobo
Peeblesshire
EH45 9JU
These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with FRS 102 the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland as adapted by Section 1A of FRS 102 and the Companies Act 2006.
The financial statements are prepared in sterling (£) which is the functional currency of the company and rounded to the nearest £.

1.2 Intangible assets and amortisation
BPS entitlements purchased are classified as an intangible asset and amortised over the expected number of years they provide the holder with entitlement to the BPS subsidy. Amortisation commences in the month after purchase.

1.3 Tangible fixed assets
Tangible fixed assets are stated at cost (or deemed cost) or valuation less accumulated depreciation and accumulated impairment losses. Cost includes costs directly attributable to making the asset capable of operating as intended.
Depreciation is provided on all tangible fixed assets, at rates calculated to write off the cost, less estimated residual value, of each asset on a systematic basis over its expected useful life as follows:
Freehold property
Properties nil, property improvements 4% to 10% reducing balance
Plant and machinery
25% reducing balance
Motor vehicles
25% reducing balance

1.4 Stocks
Stocks are stated at the lower of cost and estimated selling price, after making due allowance for obsolete and slow-moving items.

1.5 Investments
Investments are recognised initially at fair value which is normally the transaction price excluding transaction costs. Subsequently, they are measured at fair value through profit or loss if the shares are publicly traded or their fair value can otherwise be measured reliably. Other investments are measured at cost less impairment.

1.6 Financial instruments
A financial asset or a financial liability is recognised only when the entity becomes a party to the contractual provisions of the instrument. Basic financial assets, which include trade and other debtors, and cash at bank, are initially recognised at the transaction price, unless the arrangement constitutes a financing transaction, where it is recognised at the present value of the future payments discounted at a market rate of interest for a similar debt instrument. Basic financial liabilities, which include trade and other creditors and taxes due are initially recognised at the transaction price, unless the arrangement constitutes a financing transaction, where it is recognised at the present value of the future payments discounted at a market rate of interest for a similar debt instrument. At each reporting date the company assesses whether there is objective evidence that any financial asset has been impaired. A provision for impairment is established when there is objective evidence that the company will not be able to collect all amounts due. The amount of the provision is recognised immediately in profit or loss.

1.7 Impairment
A review for indicators of impairment is carried out at each reporting date, with the recoverable amount being estimated where such indicators exist. Where the carrying value exceeds the recoverable amount, the asset is impaired accordingly. Prior impairments are also reviewed for possible reversal at each reporting date.

1.8 Tax
Taxation for the year comprises current and deferred tax. Tax is recognised in the Profit and Loss Account, except to the extent that it relates to items recognised in other comprehensive income or directly in equity.
Current or deferred taxation assets and liabilities are not discounted.
Current tax is recognised at the amount of tax payable using the tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the balance sheet date.

1.9 Deferred tax
Deferred tax is recognised in respect of all timing differences that have originated but not reversed at the balance sheet date.
Timing differences arise from the inclusion of income and expenses in tax assessments in periods different from those in which they are recognised in financial statements. Deferred tax is measured using tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the year end and that are expected to apply to the reversal of the timing difference.
Unrelieved tax losses and other deferred tax assets are recognised only to the extent that it is probable that they will be recovered against the reversal of deferred tax liabilities or other future taxable profits.

1.10 Turnover and other income
Turnover is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable net of VAT and trade discounts.

1.11 Biological assets
Biological assets measured under the cost model are held at cost less any accumulated depreciation and any accumulated impairment losses.

1.12 Going concern
The financial statements have been prepared on a going concern basis. The directors have assessed the Company's ability to continue as a going concern and have a reasonable expectation that the Company has adequate resources to continue in operational existence for the foreseeable future. Thus they continue to adopt the going concern basis of accounting in preparing these financial statements.
