A Good Thing is a digital platform that enables businesses to donate unwanted items to local charities instead of sending them to landfill. Social benefits include: - Supporting the circular economy by reducing unwanted business items entering the waste system - Providing charities with additional resources to further their aims - Developing relationships between local business and charities to further corporate community engagement and responsibility The community: In 2025, the community continued to grow. We ended 2025 with: - 3,524 charities, a 29% increase on 2024 - 1,045 businesses, a 37% increase on 2024 These organisations are located across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The donations: During 2025, 1045 donations were offered to charities, a 19% increase on 2024 We estimate the (used) value of the successfully donated items to be over £500,000. Donations include office furniture and supplies, IT equipment, branded goods, hotel surplus, construction materials, and trade event surplus. There are also some unusual items – this year we managed to find a home for a lifesize inflatable elephant which was donated from a corporate training provider to the Edible Rotherhithe charity. Key initiatives: This year we expanded the platform to allow charities to share their ‘Needs’ – for example materials to fit out a new play centre. This response from charities has been tremendous with over 1,000 needs published. Team and funding: A Good Thing is primarily volunteer-run, with volunteers contributing to management, software development, data analytics, marketing, business development, and offer management. We ended the year by employing our first paid member of staff in an Operations Lead role, ensuring reliable day-to-day support and operations for our community members, helping to drive key new initiatives, and maturing the operational processes. Approximately 2/3 of our funding is from corporate donations from SquaredUp, a B Corp certified software business with the same founders as A Good Thing. The other 1/3 of funding is from revenue from business subscriptions to premium features.
