4. Financial Commitments

The company has ongoing commitments to deliver community programmes and activities funded by restricted and designated funds. As at 30 November 2025, balances held as long-term obligations included Chinese Course Funding (£1,801.65), HKers Welcome Events Funding (£2,285.22), Community Events Funding (£1,291.12) and the 25/26 Devon Community Foundation Small Grant Award (£3,365.82). These funds are held for specific community purposes and will be applied towards future programme delivery in accordance with the objectives and funding conditions of the respective projects.

Company activities and impact

Hongkongers In Devon CIC organises community, cultural and educational activities for Hongkongers in Devon and nearby areas, while also creating opportunities for engagement with the wider local community. The company’s objectives are to support integration, reduce social isolation, encourage volunteering and community participation, and preserve and share Hong Kong culture and the Cantonese language. During the financial year from 1 December 2024 to 30 November 2025, the company carried out or supported the following activities: 14 December 2024: Christmas Party at Wonford Community Centre. A seasonal community gathering that enabled families and local participants to meet, build friendships and strengthen community connections. 9 February 2025: Lunar New Year Celebration at Exeter Phoenix. A public cultural celebration that brought people together to share Lunar New Year traditions and promote intercultural understanding. 8 March and 6 September 2025: Chill Club sessions at St Sidwell’s Community Centre. Informal social sessions providing a welcoming space for conversation, learning, activities and relationship-building. 12 March 2025: Donation of proceeds from street-food sales at Chill Club at St Sidwell’s Community Centre. Community fundraising linked to a social event, supporting further community activity. 5 April 2025: Inclusive Exeter Creative Integration Arts Day at Studio 36, Exeter. Participation in a creative integration activity connecting people from different backgrounds through arts and community engagement. 12 April 2025: Diverse Devon Together CIC community social gathering at Newtown Community Centre, Belmont Park. Supported collaboration and relationship-building with another community organisation and the wider local community. 16 April 2025: Green Bean documentary exclusive premiere, “Hi, Your Excellency - Sir John Bowring” at Exeter Phoenix. Supported access for special guests to a cultural screening and encouraged discussion of Hong Kong-related history and culture. 26 April 2025: Screening of “Rather Be Ashes than Dust” at Exeter Phoenix. Provided a shared cultural experience and an opportunity for community members and guests to connect. April 2025: Donation of proceeds from sales of glutinous rice dumplings. Raised funds to support the St Sidwell’s Community Centre. 31 May 2025: Dragon Boat Festival Celebration at Wonford Community Centre. Promoted Hong Kong cultural heritage through a community celebration and brought families and local participants together. 7 and 8 June 2025: Exeter Respect Festival 2025 at Belmont Park. Participated in a wider multicultural festival, sharing culture, supporting inclusion and building links with other communities. 28 June 2025: Cantonese class outing to Haldon Forest at Haldon Forest. Extended learning beyond the classroom and supported confidence, friendship and wellbeing among learners and families. 4 October 2025: Moon Festival Celebration at Wonford Community Centre. Provided another inclusive cultural event where participants could learn about traditions and strengthen social connections. The company also continued its Cantonese language classes during the year. These classes help children and other learners maintain or develop Cantonese language skills, support intergenerational communication and preserve cultural heritage. The overall programme of events and classes provided practical opportunities for friendship, learning, volunteering, cultural exchange and participation in the local community.
