Empathy Animals: Delivering Comfort, Well Being & Connection Empathy Animal partnerships are special in that they quietly seem to understand the people they help merely by their presence alone. These amazing animals, alongside their dedicated guardians, visit schools, hospitals, care homes, hospices, and alternative education settings, bringing warmth and companionship where it’s needed the most. Guardians of Empathy Animals are dedicated not only to their visits but also to their animals’ well-being. Driven by a meaningful or compelling purpose, they invest in training and assessments, learning to understand their companion animal whilst strengthening their bond. They acknowledge they are responsible for advocating and ensuring their dogs lead happy, fulfilling lives while providing a safe and joyful experience for those they visit. These partnerships are more than just heartwarming - they set a gold standard in therapy dog preparation and training. Empathy Animals help educate their therapy setting and communities on how to care for, respect and safely interact with dogs, fostering a deeper connection with animals in a world where such experiences can be limited or even non-existent. Carol Lincoln and Sarah Ellis has proudly supported Nadia Saad, founder of Empathy Animals, from the very start when the CIC was incorporated in 2022. As Nadia embarks on new ventures, we are honoured to take full custodianship of the C.I.C., with Nadia remaining a valued board member. We currently invite and support a limited number of volunteer applications each year based on special merit, with a focus at present on London, the South West of England, and Wales. To be invited, a volunteer must be fully committed to only volunteering their time. At present Empathy Animals CIC has: - 11 acting volunteer canine therapy partnerships working across the given areas in schools, hospitals and care homes. - The impact of the volunteers reaching their beneficiaries would number as a conservative estimate 2,288 person visits for this accounting year. Our beneficiaries are: 1. Schoolchildren - who benefit from reading or hanging out with their canine companion impacts include: increased confidence & engagement with learning, increased attendance, higher reading scores, reduced social anxiety & peer pressure, increased serotonin levels and encouragement to enjoy activities outside of the classroom and enjoy the benefits of the human animal bond important especially to those who come into little contact with animals or the natural world 2. Care Home and Hospital residents - who benefit from the joy and happiness a visit from an animal can bring, including brief respite from monotonous and painful medical procedures, a reason to get out of bed, a conversation starter encouraging conversations about the past thereby stimulating memories about a beneficiaries own pets, com-fort when a person has had to give up their pet due to illness or age, reduction in social isolation and increased serotonin levels. 3. Our volunteers themselves - some of whom are retired or others are compelled to undertake this volunteer work as they themselves have benefitted greatly from the work of a therapy dog in the past. Volunteers report the joy of working with their companion animals and bringing comfort to those they visit each week. 4. The therapy dogs themselves - most dogs especially those who have passed a rigorous therapy dog training and certification process as the Empathy Animals have will deeply enjoy and be enriched by visiting other humans away from home. The bond they have with their human is deeply enhanced by the training and assessments they have undertaken together which means that the welfare and well being of the animal is deeply improved over many pets who are often left alone at home all day waiting for their owners to come home.
