Company activities and impact

address: movement for social change are a CIC using regenerative means to build community and connection via all forms of electronic music. We run initiatives to nurture and develop electronic music and nightlife culture by equipping people with resources, skills and opportunities. Address acts as an 'incubator for the underground', increasing accessibility and equity in electronic music to fuel creativity and connection of all involved. We proudly work beyond the influence of profit-focused objectives, providing alternatives to how artists, performers and audiences engage with electronic music and nightlife in their communities. For this financial year we had investment from the arts council england grassroots music fund to run a residency programme, supporting 4 DJ's to develop their practice, build their skills and create new opportunities. We have also continued our monthly evenings at Planet Sounds, offering free practice room space for beginners and a community focused 'open decks' night where everyone is welcome. In addition to this we have supported local arts and music organisations to enhance their events by hiring audio equipment and booking DJs.

Consultation with stakeholders

Public address is our monthly event which has been described as ‘somewhere between a micro-club and a community hub’, and has a laid back, relaxed vibe in a tunnel under a bridge. It is a monthly, free event designed to facilitate conversation and activate change in how artists, performers and audiences engage with electronic music and nightlife in Southampton. We use these events to spark conversation with local audiences interested in electronic music. These conversations form the basis of how we plan our activity, directly feeding into our DJ practice space and our events planning for the year.

Directors' remuneration

£800 of our arts council funding was ring-fenced to pay directors for their work in administrating and organising the residency programme as well as project management for the DJ practice room.
