The company backdated its registration for the VAT Flat Rate Scheme by five years. Invoices raised to recover the VAT element from customers in respect of this backdated period remain largely unpaid, and the company has appealed to HMRC regarding the associated liability. Included within creditors is GBP 22,908 relating to this matter, which the directors have provided for in full on a prudent basis pending the outcome of the appeal. The related debtor balance has been assessed for recoverability: an amount of approximately GBP 15,272, representing income that is not expected to be received from customers, has not been recognised as turnover and has been written off against debtors. The remaining debtor balance of GBP 18,623 is considered recoverable and is included within debtors. These amounts may be subject to further adjustment once the appeal is concluded.
