Back Lane West’s activities benefit artists, particularly those living in or strongly connected to Cornwall, as well as the local community. Through the provision of low-cost project space, mentorship and free public events. For the 2025 programme BLW hosted 6 individual artists and once again we collaborated with Falmouth University to offer a group of third year Fine Art Students the time and space to develop and test ideas outside the institutional environment. Shallal the performance-based community charity also had a month’s residency working with a diverse group from the wider community. Alongside this residency programme we have been working in partnership with Auction House Gallery CIC to develop the ABC Project along with CMR arts space, a project intended to make contemporary visual art more accessible to the wider local community. To this end we instigated art projects in public spaces around the town that the public could encounter as part of their daily activities. The project has been supported by Plymouth University, Falmouth University, Cornwall Council’s Library and Archive Services and Redruth Town Council.
