Company activities and impact

TDM Community Studio was established in 2015 with the aim of creating a safe, welcoming and inclusive space for people of all ages within the local community. Since opening, the studio has developed into much more than a dance facility. It has become a central community hub, providing a range of activities, opportunities and support that bring people together, encourage participation and help to reduce social isolation and loneliness. The studio provides a flexible and accessible environment which is used as a meeting space, function room, fitness studio, dance studio and social hub. We currently have more than 200 people from the local community accessing the building and participating in activities each week, demonstrating the important role the centre plays within the area. Our provision is designed to meet the needs of different age groups and backgrounds, with activities including: Social activities for older people, including social evenings, arts and crafts and sewing groups. These sessions provide an opportunity for older residents to leave their homes, meet new people, develop friendships and maintain social connections. For some participants, these activities provide their main regular opportunity to interact with other people and can play an important role in reducing loneliness and isolation. Inclusive dance classes for children and young people, providing opportunities for participants to develop physical skills, creativity, confidence and communication in a supportive and non-judgemental environment. Our sessions encourage participation regardless of previous experience or ability. Parent and toddler sessions, which were introduced in response to an identified need within the local community. These sessions provide young children with opportunities to socialise, play and develop, while also giving parents and carers the opportunity to meet others, build friendships and develop a support network within their local community. Dance and fitness activities for all ages, ranging from young children to adults aged 70 and above. Our programme includes a wide variety of activities, from ballet, commercial and street dance to fitness and wellbeing sessions. Participation continues to grow, with more members of the community becoming aware of the physical, emotional and social benefits of maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle. Tackling Isolation and Improving Wellbeing TDM Community Studio has become a safe haven for many people within the local area. For some members of our community, attending the studio represents their only regular interaction with other people outside of their home. We recognise that loneliness and social isolation can affect people of all ages, which is why we continually look at new ways of engaging with the community and ensuring that our programme remains accessible, relevant and inclusive. Our approach is not simply about providing activities; it is about creating connections, friendships, confidence and a sense of belonging. Participants are encouraged to build relationships with others, become involved in the wider community and take ownership of the activities and events taking place within the centre. We are particularly proud of the positive progress we have seen across our programmes. Participants have developed greater confidence, improved communication skills and increased self-esteem, while many have also developed friendships and social networks that extend beyond the studio. Opportunities for Children and Young People TDM Community Studio provides an important safe space for children and young people to meet, communicate and develop positive relationships with their peers. The studio is situated within a deprived area, and we recognise the importance of providing affordable and accessible opportunities for local children and young people. We aim to ensure that financial circumstances do not prevent young people from accessing positive activities, developing their talents or experiencing opportunities that they may otherwise not have access to. Through our classes, projects and performance opportunities, young people are able to develop skills that extend beyond dance. These include teamwork, discipline, communication, leadership, resilience, creativity and confidence. We have also delivered a number of community projects both within the studio and at our local theatre. These projects provide participants with the opportunity to work towards a shared goal and perform in front of an audience. For many children and adults, performing publicly is a significant achievement and can have a lasting positive impact on their self-esteem and confidence. Community Events and Fundraising The studio has also played an active role in bringing the wider community together through events and fundraising activities. Over the years, the community has worked collectively to support improvements to the building. Fundraising events have helped us undertake essential decorating and small-scale building works, including repainting the interior and exterior of the building, installing new flooring and developing a new kitchen facility. These improvements have helped us create a more welcoming, safe and professional environment for the hundreds of people who use the studio each week. Our fundraising efforts have also supported local dance groups, including Lil Sugars and Notorious, enabling approximately 30 young dancers aged between 7 and 18 to attend major competitions and represent Wales on an international stage. These opportunities would not have been possible without the support of the wider community. Local residents, families and user groups have all contributed by attending fundraising events, donating unwanted clothing and supporting activities organised by the studio. This demonstrates the strong sense of community ownership that exists around TDM Community Studio. People do not simply use the building; they contribute to it, support it and take pride in what it provides for the local area. Our Ongoing Commitment TDM Community Studio continues to develop in response to the needs of the community. We regularly assess our activities and listen to participants to identify gaps in provision and opportunities for further engagement. Our long-term aim is to continue developing the studio as a safe, inclusive and accessible community hub, providing opportunities for people of all ages to participate, socialise, learn new skills and improve their physical and emotional wellbeing. We believe that community spaces are particularly important within areas where residents may experience social and economic challenges. By providing affordable activities, positive experiences and opportunities to connect with others, TDM Community Studio helps to create a stronger, more connected and supportive community. At the heart of everything we do is the belief that everyone should have somewhere they feel welcome, valued and included. TDM Community Studio is not simply a building where activities take place. It is a place where people meet, friendships are formed, confidence grows and opportunities are created. For many members of our community, it is a vital part of their weekly lives and an important source of connection, activity and belonging
