2025 was a year of community, opportunity, visibility and growth for UKBFTOG. Throughout the year, we continued our mission to inspire, educate and connect Black female photographers across the UK, creating opportunities for our community to develop their skills, build confidence, connect with one another and gain access to spaces and experiences that can often feel out of reach. We created opportunities for our members One of the things we continued to prioritise was creating real industry opportunities for our members. In 2025, members were given the opportunity to photograph major red-carpet events, including the 28 Years Later premiere and the Wednesday Season 2 premiere. These opportunities allowed members to experience press photography first-hand, build confidence and add new experiences to their portfolios. These opportunities are important because they go beyond simply giving someone a ticket. They give photographers the chance to step into professional spaces, learn by doing and realise that they belong there. We brought photographers together Our annual Carnival Photography Photowalk returned in August 2025, bringing photographers together at Notting Hill Carnival to photograph the colour, culture and energy of Carnival. The event built on the success of our 2024 photowalk, where 30 photographers came together, and continued our focus on confidence, creativity and connection through photography. We strengthened industry partnerships Throughout the year, UKBFTOG continued developing relationships with organisations across the photography and creative industries. Our wider partnership network has included organisations such as FUJIFILM, MPB, The Photography & Video Show, Solo Press and Abbey Road, helping us create more opportunities, visibility and access for our community. We continued creating visibility for Black female photographers A huge part of our work is making sure Black women are seen within photography. We continued showcasing the work and stories of our members while creating spaces where photographers could share experiences, ask questions, learn from one another and celebrate their achievements. Our mission remains rooted in the belief that no Black female photographer should feel like they have to navigate the industry alone. We continued building UKBFTOG as an organisation 2025 was also part of a bigger period of growth for UKBFTOG. Following our transition into a Community Interest Company (CIC), we continued developing the infrastructure behind the community, including our membership, directory, website and opportunities for members. The UKBFTOG Directory was created to give Black female photographers a dedicated place to showcase their work, tell their stories and be discovered by potential clients and organisations looking to work with Black female photographers. Behind every event, opportunity and partnership was the same goal: To create a space where Black female photographers can connect, grow and thrive. From photographers just picking up their first camera to established professionals, UKBFTOG continued to provide a space for photographers to ask questions, share knowledge, celebrate wins, build relationships and support one another.
