Development of Golf for Juniors and Beginners at Alnwick Castle Golf Club (ACGC) Over the summer season, ACGC has delivered a comprehensive programme aimed at attracting new members across all areas of the Club. While membership has grown broadly, particular focus has been placed on Juniors and beginners, with significant progress achieved over the last 12 months. More than 50 new junior members have joined in this period. Junior Golf Development A wide-ranging set of initiatives has been implemented to support Junior Golf and ensure accessibility for all Financial Support for Juniors Under14s Fees reduced to a minimum, with only national/county affiliation fees payable once an official handicap is obtained. Ages 14 to 16 Only affiliation fees charged, reflecting the expectation that most will have achieved handicap status by age 14. Access to Equipment Clubs and equipment provided free of charge to ensure no barriers to participation. Creation of a Shortened 9Hole Course Designed specifically for new players aged 8 to 14, offering an accessible introduction to oncourse play. Structured Coaching Programme Weekly evening tuition sessions for Juniors up to age 14 Juniors aged 14 to 16 Supervised Sunday afternoon on course sessions. Midweek sessions during school holidays for all abilities. A programme of competitions suitable for all levels. Guidance and encouragement for Juniors working towards official handicap status. Beginner Pathways for Ladies A parallel programme offered to women new to golf, mirroring the Junior development structure. Community Links Strong partnerships have been developed with Duchess High School, Alnwick, with the aim of widening access and introducing golf to young people Delivery of two taster days on the school site for all Year 7 students. Summer holiday sessions hosted at ACGC for interested pupils. Provision of equipment to ensure full accessibility. These initiatives have strengthened community engagement and provided a clear pathway from school-based introduction to Club participation.

The company's stakeholders are our existing members, residents in the community including local schools and visitors to our golf course and clubhouse. Meetings were held with the local school to discuss how best to promote golf. This resulted in what has now become an annual 2 day visit to the school at the end of the summer term to deliver in-house golf lessons and to promote free junior golf lessons held over the summer at the golf club. These meetings and visits identified that an initial barrier to golf is obtaining the appropriate equipment. The golf club acted upon this by purchasing four sets of junior golf clubs that can be used free of charge including a left-handed set. Membership fees were reduced to zero for junior members including affiliation fees for those who obtained a handicap. Informal discussions are held by our reception staff with visitors to the course and clubhouse to identify how the course, and accessibility can be improved. As a result of these discussions improved signage to the course has been introduced, as well as reductions to the height of the gorse in certain areas to improve visibility to passing walkers. The monthly committee meeting has a standing item to discuss junior and beginner golf development, receiving feedback from members, parents and the junior coaching team.
