ELAF’s 2025 European Land Art Festival and Stone Stacking Championships took place in Dunbar from 15 to 20 July 2025. It was a lively, welcoming week of temporary art made with natural materials, set against the changing coastal weather. The festival brought together nature artists and stone stackers from across the UK and overseas, including France, Germany, Sweden, Portugal, Italy, Switzerland and North America, giving the event a clear international character while remaining rooted in Dunbar’s beaches, public spaces and community. The programme successfully combined high level artistic practice with accessible participation. Alongside land art activity and the European championships, the public were invited to family sandcastle and artistic competitions, junior events, and live music fundraising evenings. The weather wasn’t always on our side, but we still drew the crowds. The championships produced strong international competition, with French artist SP Ranza named European Stone Stacking Champion and winners represented across the UK and Europe. Overall, the festival’s public facing activity presents 2025 as a positive, inclusive and creatively ambitious year, delivering cultural activity for local families and visitors while strengthening ELAF’s international network.
