During the financial year, the CIC’s activities have benefited the community in the following ways: - people living with dementia have been able to participate in regular, accessible art classes in a welcoming and supportive environment, providing opportunities for creativity, enjoyment and self-expression participants have been able to develop and maintain social connections, helping to reduce loneliness and social isolation and providing opportunities to meet and interact with others experiencing similar challenges - the art classes have supported participants’ wellbeing by providing meaningful activities that can promote confidence, self-esteem, relaxation and a sense of achievement - family members and carers have benefited from knowing that participants have access to a safe, inclusive and stimulating activity that supports their social and emotional wellbeing - the CIC has helped to make creative and cultural activities more accessible to people living with dementia, who may otherwise face barriers to participating in mainstream arts activities - the CIC has helped raise awareness of the abilities and creative potential of people living with dementia, promoting greater inclusion and challenging negative perceptions surrounding dementia.
The company’s stakeholders are people living with dementia who attend the art classes, their family members and carers, local artists and creative practitioners, volunteers, and organisations and community groups working to support people affected by dementia. The directors of the company have experience of working with and supporting people living with dementia and developed the CIC’s activities in response to the needs identified within the local community. The company has engaged with participants, families and carers to understand the barriers they may face in accessing creative and social activities and to ensure that the classes are welcoming, inclusive and accessible. We regularly ask participants and their carers for feedback about the art classes, including what they enjoy, what they would like to do differently and what additional activities or support would be beneficial. This feedback helps us to adapt the sessions to meet participants’ changing needs and interests. We also encourage artists, volunteers and staff involved in delivering the classes to share observations and ideas based on their experience of working with participants. We use this ongoing engagement to ensure that the CIC remains responsive to the needs of people living with dementia and that our activities continue to provide meaningful opportunities for creativity, social connection and improved wellbeing. Where appropriate, we also work with local community organisations and dementia support services to identify people who could benefit from participating in the programme.
