The company runs The Old Jet Airspace programme, a professional development programme that supports new artists and musicians who are facing career barriers to launch their careers. The company achieves this by providing professional development services, workspace, industry introductions and other services including photoshoots and website development so that the community can develop their work and launch their careers. All activities take place at an established arts centre in Suffolk called Old Jet. During the financial year 2024 - 2025, the company’s primary activities were: 1. Delivering a music development programme to two local emerging musicians. Each participant was provided with six month’s free access to a shared writing, rehearsal and recording space, specialist mentoring and community integration at Old Jet. Participants wrote that “The Airspace Programme at Old Jet provides the space, time and tools to create in a supportive environment centred on a strong community. It gives you the freedom to explore your process and come out of it a better musician while also having learnt more about yourself along the way.” And “Before the Airspace program at Old Jet, I didn’t have a dedicated space to write and record music. It was just me and my guitar in my bedroom. Airspace has given me access to a place that I can come to, with an incredible arsenal of instruments and equipment at my disposal - things I wouldn’t have had access to otherwise, and some things I’d never even heard of. I’ve had the space and the means to be more focused and been able to explore, record and produce good quality demos, ultimately leading to my first body of work, which will be released next year. It’s been an enabling and transformative experience.” 2. Completing a building work project to construct the first studio for The Old Jet Airspace Programme. The project, which is primarily funded by East Suffolk Council’s Rural Business Investment Fund, will benefit the community by providing free studio space from which beneficiaries can develop their work and integrate with the Old Jet community. 3. Marketing ‘The Old Jet Gallery’, an online art gallery that sells the work of talented visual artists. This benefited the community by enabling talented new artists to increase the visibility of their work and increase their income, and by generating earned income for the CIC from which to fund future programme slots. 4. Engaging in fundraising activities. This led to securing grants and donations from Alfie Carpenter Charity for Creative Arts, Scarfe Charitable Trust, Nuclear Restoration Services, Herefordshire Community Foundation’s Joanies Fund and East Suffolk Council’s Enabling Communities, Rural Business Investment Fund and Business Ambition Fund. This activity benefited the community by funding projects and activities across this financial year and next.
The company’s primary stakeholders are talented new artists and musicians who are working towards establishing their career in the arts. Stakeholders also include suppliers to our activities including established artists, musicians, photographers, videographers and designers. The stakeholders have been consulted via: 1. Twice-monthly 1:1 dialogue with the new artists that we support. 2. Regular 1:1 dialogue with activity suppliers. The action that the company has taken in response to feedback from its consultations has resulted in identifying new provisions to provide the community, including mentoring from previous Airspace graduates, and development programmes that have no predetermined outcomes or outputs to increase the flexibility and fluidity of the support provided to the community.
