WESTON MARINE LAKE MUDLARKS CIC

Directors' report period ended 31 December 2025

The directors present their report with the financial statements of the company for the period ended 31 December 2025

Principal activities of the company

Principal activities The CIC previously worked with North Somerset Council to clear the 33,000 tons of mud that had been left to fill Weston's Marine Lake by demonstrating that the community really wanted to have the Lake fully usable again. The repair of the sluice gates, the dredging of the lake and subsequent re-use by the RNLI as a training feature as well as significant use of the beach during the summer months and lake throughout the year continues to be extremely well received, by all water users. The CIC is also responsible for maintaining the 2 min litter pick board supplying litter pickers and bags to help keep the lake surroundings clear and encouraging lake users to take their litter home. The CIC continues to liaise with the seafront team over any problems with infrastructure or antisocial behaviour. The CIC is a community link between the Local Authorities and public , keeping lake users updated with planned closures for maintenance of the lake through social media and website. The lake closed in October 2025 for the planned levelling up of the lake , the work includes but is not limited to- resurfacing of the apron, installing bike racks, new public toilets and the development of a new concession. This work is possible from the levelling up fund from central government. The CIC alongside North Somerset Council helped write the proposal for this funding. The lake is due to reopen April 2026 ,the directors of the CIC have regular meetings with North Somerset Council as part of a steering group and are kept up to date on the works. As part of this a possibility of a swim channel is being investigated and the CIC have found a viable option for this , which is more cost efficient compared to a full lake dredge. The CIC are also fundraising for a lake thermometer, the plan is for this to be live on the website and for all lake users to be able check the current temperature. The CIC has a new long-term project of introducing native oysters into the lake and surrounding areas in the estuary. This will have a positive environmental impact and the hope is it will also improve water quality. North Somerset Council have been consulted and volunteers from the local community have been recruited.
