The principal accounting policies are summarised below. They have all been applied consistently throughout the financial period and to the preceding financial period, unless otherwise stated.
St. Bridget Nurseries Limited (the Company) is a private company, limited by shares, incorporated in the United Kingdom under the Companies Act 2006 and is registered in England and Wales. The address of the Company's registered office is Ground Floor, Keble House, Southernhay Gardens, Exeter, EX1 1NT, United Kingdom.
The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention, modified to include the revaluation of freehold properties and to include investment properties and certain items at fair value, and in accordance with Section 1A of Financial Reporting Standard 102 (FRS 102) ‘The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland’ issued by the Financial Reporting Council and the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 as applicable to companies subject to the small companies regime.
The financial statements are presented in pounds sterling which is the functional currency of the Company and rounded to the nearest £.
The financial statements contain information about St. Bridget Nurseries Limited as an individual company and do not contain consolidated financial information as the parent of a group. The company is exempt under Section 399(2A) of the Companies Act 2006 from the requirements to prepare consolidated financial statements.
Defined contribution schemes
The company operates a defined contribution pension scheme for one director and some staff. Contributions are recognised in the profit and loss account in the period in which they become payable in accordance with the rules of the scheme
Current tax is provided at amounts expected to be paid (or recoverable) using the tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted at the Balance Sheet date.

Listed investments
Portfolio fixed asset investments are recognised initially at fair value which is normally the transaction price excluding transaction costs. Subsequently, they are measured at fair value through profit or loss. Income from the sale of the investment is recognised in other income on disposal. Interest income is recognised on receipt of payment. No dividend income is receivable on the listed investments.
Investment in subsidiaries
Investments in subsidiary undertakings are recognised at cost.
Net realisable value is the estimated selling price less all estimated costs of completion and costs to be incurred in marketing, selling and distribution.
Financial instruments are classified and accounted for, according to the substance of the contractual arrangement, as financial assets, financial liabilities or equity instruments. An equity instrument is any contract that evidences a residual interest in the assets of the company after deducting all of its liabilities.
Where shares are issued, any component that creates a financial liability of the company is presented as a liability in the balance sheet. The corresponding dividends relating to the liability component are charged as interest expense in the profit and loss account.
Investments in subsidiary undertakings are recognised at cost.

The investment value of the group shares is included at cost at £10,046.
The portfolio fixed asset investments are held at valuation. The revaluation has been taken from reports provided to the company by Evelyn Partners. The date for revaluation was 31 December 2025.
The carrying value of the portfolio fixed asset investments is £950,000.
Investments (neither listed or unlisted) were as follows: Basic rights for rural payment £5,311 (2024: £5,311).
