Sound Out is a small community interest company based in Kentish Town, providing free and low-cost opportunities for people to explore wellbeing and creativity through collaborative, inclusive practices using voice, breath and gentle movement. Our activity during the financial year 2025–2026 focused on the development and delivery of a new, bespoke practice, Vocal Meditation. We offered inclusive, welcoming drop-in sessions designed to be accessible to people from different backgrounds, ages and levels of experience. The company’s activities benefited the community in the following ways: Accessibility: Sessions were offered free of charge or at a low cost, helping to reduce financial barriers to participation. Local community: The sessions took place in Kentish Town and were mainly attended by local residents and people from the London Borough of Camden, with a small number of participants joining from the wider London area and beyond. Inclusive participation: The participant group represented a diverse range of ages, from their 20s to their 70s, as well as different employment statuses, backgrounds, genders and levels of experience, and included neurodivergent participants. Health and wellbeing: The sessions provided an opportunity to focus on breath, voice, movement and relaxation, supporting participants’ health and wellbeing in a non-judgemental environment. Connection: The sessions created a space for people to meet and practise together, supporting social connection and helping to reduce isolation. Participation: During the period covered by this report, 42 people took part, including 15 returning participants who each attended more than seven sessions. As a new organisation, our activity during this first period was relatively small, but we have established the Vocal Meditation sessions as an accessible community activity and are continuing to develop the practice and its benefits to the community.
The company’s stakeholders are primarily the people who participate in the Vocal Meditation sessions, as well as the landlord who provides the space in which the sessions take place. We have consulted participants through short surveys following sessions, as well as through informal verbal reflections and conversations. This feedback has helped us to understand participants’ experiences of the sessions and what they value about the practice. It has also informed the planning and ongoing development of the sessions, including their structure and content, to ensure that they remain welcoming, accessible and beneficial to the community. We have also maintained regular conversations with our landlord/host about the use of the space. They have generously donated the space free of charge to support this community activity and have expressed their support for the continuation of the Vocal Meditation sessions. We continue to work collaboratively with them to ensure that the space is used appropriately and that the sessions can continue to be offered to the local community.
