  • 1. Accounting policies

    Basis of measurement and preparation

These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102

    Turnover policy

Turnover represents the funding that is received from the company's grant funders in order for the CIC to run projects for the benefit of the community it serves. As the CIC is not a profit making organisation, its income always matches its expenditure in any given period. Any surplus or excess funding received in the bank but not expended is therefore carried forward as deferred income in the balance sheet and released to the profit and loss account in the financial year in which it is to be spent.

COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

APNA VIRSA ORGANISATION CIC

Company Number: 15947592 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 30 September 2025

Company activities and impact

Apna Virsa Organisation CIC exists to improve the health, wellbeing, social connection and quality of life of people aged 50 and over, particularly those from South Asian and other diverse communities across Berkshire and surrounding areas. During the year, we delivered a wide range of community-based activities including Yoga, Chair Yoga, Zumba, Bhangra, Walking Groups, Basic IT Classes, Knitting and Crochet Sessions, Gardening Activities, Healthy Living Workshops, Cultural Heritage Projects and Community Events. Our activities are designed to reduce social isolation, improve physical and mental wellbeing, encourage active lifestyles and create opportunities for people to connect with others in a safe and welcoming environment. Over the reporting period, we delivered more than 120 sessions and engaged hundreds of participants through regular activities and special events. We also expanded our programme by recruiting three new tutors, introducing new activities and increasing opportunities for volunteer involvement. A new knitting and crochet group was established and has grown steadily, providing both creative and social benefits for participants. Interest in our gardening and allotment activities has also increased, helping older people connect with nature, learn new skills and improve wellbeing. Participants regularly report improvements in mobility, confidence, energy levels and social connection. Many have formed new friendships and become more actively involved in their local community. The CIC has also continued to support cultural and heritage initiatives, including projects that preserve community stories and traditions for future generations.

Consultation with stakeholders

Apna Virsa Organisation CIC regularly consults with its stakeholders, including participants, volunteers, tutors, community groups, partner organisations and funders. Consultation takes place through feedback forms, surveys, informal discussions before and after sessions, volunteer meetings, steering group meetings, project evaluations and community engagement events. Feedback received from participants is used to identify new activities, improve existing services and ensure that programmes remain relevant to community needs. Stakeholders are encouraged to share their views on the types of activities they would like to see, barriers to participation and opportunities for improvement. During the year, consultation identified demand for additional social and creative activities, which led to the introduction of the knitting and crochet group. Feedback also highlighted the importance of providing a wider range of wellbeing activities, resulting in the recruitment of new tutors and the expansion of the programme offer. Participants expressed interest in outdoor and nature-based activities, contributing to the development and growth of the gardening and allotment project. Regular feedback has also helped us improve accessibility, communication and participant support. Volunteers play an important role in shaping the organisation's activities and several have progressed into positions of greater responsibility, with some moving into paid employment opportunities. The CIC remains committed to ensuring that the voices of participants and stakeholders directly influence the planning, development and delivery of its services, helping to maximise community benefit and respond to changing local needs.
