The Living Memorial definitely conforms to a community interest company that we have formed. We have established two areas that have a small cooker to heat kettles for tea and coffee. These areas are fully stocked with a variety of flavoured packets of coffees. Some with milk and sugar, tea, biscuits, sugar, cans of drink, poly cups and long life milk. The water drums with taps are changed every few days should visitors wish to sit a while and have a hot or cold drink. One of the cabins has been dedicated to Lt Aaron Lewis killed in Afghanistan 15 December 2008. The second coffee/tea area is housed on the other side of the Memorial in an archive with sofas. This last year we dedicated a statue and gazebos to fire search and rescue dogs with two gazebos that are next to Aarons coffee bar. We hosted an opening day for 400 people supplying sandwiches, cakes and hot drinks all free. We have found that these coffee areas are much enjoyed by visitors to the site. Once a month there is a plaque dedication to the firefighters and families who enjoy looking around the memorial and we make ourselves available to serve teas and cakes. These is no charge for this service we are aided by volunteers. We have interred several ashes and trees this year again at no charge. We grow the trees ourselves. All we ask is that they pay for the plaques. We have again as like last year taken several groups that we refer to as walks and talks. These take around 2-3 hours. We discuss all the different conflicts and wars that are covered on this site. Each area has the names of all British troops killed on plaques. Having added the search dogs gives another educational aspect to the service of dogs to our country and has a very interesting history. We also discuss our troops, firefighters and police services. We have a small camping group who stay for a week. This group helps give inexpensive holidays to families but it also has special needs adults and children. The month of August we entertained the Gurkhas for lunch. They have put forward a design for a Memorial to the Gurkha regiments through their service to our country. This is a very exciting project and we look forward to bringing this plan to fruition. We have allocated a sizable plot for them to use, subject to some possible planning permission. This will be a beautiful, enriching and educational project for the general public. There is so much that happens on our memorial site that helps our wider community. We hold barbecues and clay shoots for the Royal Marine Veterans. The same for the Royal Artillery, and a clay shoot and cream tea for the Royal Navy. Different associations hold their monthly meetings. We have a service on the 12th September to remember the Aden conflict, and we will also be interring the ashes and planting a tree in memory of a Coldstream guard Aden veteran. We are always there for members of the public, veterans, serving armed forces, firefighters and police. There is always a cup of tea of coffee, and we are happy to listen. What we have created is a huge undertaking, we are coming up to 19 years. Everybody gets to benefit from our living memorial. Many local people come with their dogs to stroll around the grounds but importantly, every step has been an honour and privilege to be able to put something back to our society which is why I believe we have fully complied in every way with our CIC
