COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

NEWHAM POETRY GROUP CIC

Company Number: 12360903 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 December 2025

Company activities and impact

During 2025, Newham Poetry Group CIC continued to provide accessible, inclusive and community-led creative opportunities for residents of Newham and East London. We delivered regular poetry, creative writing and arts activities, creating welcoming spaces where people could develop their creativity, build confidence, connect with others and have their voices heard. Particular attention was given to communities that can experience barriers to participation in mainstream arts and cultural spaces, including LGBTQ+ people, refugees and migrants, and people from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Throughout the year, NPG worked collaboratively with local residents, artists, community organisations and partners to deliver workshops, poetry sessions, performances and community events. Activities were designed to remain accessible and affordable, with many opportunities offered free of charge. Our approach continued to be volunteer-led, community-centred and non-hierarchical, with participants encouraged not simply to attend activities but to contribute ideas and help shape the programme. Our work in 2025 strengthened NPG's role as a grassroots cultural organisation in Newham, using poetry and the arts as tools for connection, creative expression, belonging and social inclusion. Any income and resources received by the CIC were used to support the delivery and development of activities for the benefit of the communities we serve.

Consultation with stakeholders

Newham Poetry Group is a community-led organisation, and consultation is embedded in the way we work. Our main stakeholders are our participants, volunteers, local artists, community organisations and residents. Throughout 2025, we consulted stakeholders through regular conversations, feedback during and after activities, group discussions, meetings and ongoing engagement with participants and partners. Their feedback directly informed our programme, including the types of workshops and activities offered, accessibility, venues and the development of activities specifically responding to LGBTQ+, refugee and migrant communities. Participants were also encouraged to propose ideas and actively contribute to shaping and delivering activities.
