During the financial year, the Disability Football Collective, in collaboration with Leeds Beckett University, finalised and published first-of-its-kind research investigating the lived experiences of disabled people working in managerial, leadership and governance roles within English football. The report, Football’s Disability Blind Spot: A Report on Disabled People’s Lived Experience of Working in Managerial, Leadership and Governance Positions in English Football, highlights the barriers faced by disabled people across the football workforce and provides practical recommendations for football stakeholders to improve disability inclusion. The research provides an important evidence base for the sector, helping to increase understanding of the experiences of disabled people and support positive change towards a more inclusive football industry.
The Disability Football Collective has continued to engage with organisations and individuals across the football industry. A key focus of this work is bridging the gap between organisations within the football ecosystem and the needs and lived experiences of disabled people who are already working, or seeking opportunities to work, within the industry. Through ongoing consultation and dialogue, DFC aims to ensure that the experiences and perspectives of disabled people are better understood and reflected in discussions, approaches and actions to improve disability inclusion across football.
