During the financial year, the company's activities delivered benefit to the Durham community across three key areas. First, students in Durham benefited directly from the opportunities the company created, whether they were working on client projects or interacting and working with other students in a social capacity. Through client-facing roles, students gained genuine, hands-on experience that is otherwise difficult to access at undergraduate level. This gave students a meaningful bridge between academic study and the world of work, helping address a gap many Durham students face in gaining practical experience relevant to their future careers. Second, these activities helped facilitate wider benefit for the Durham student community by giving students greater exposure to, and relationships with, local businesses. Rather than existing in isolation from the local business community, students were able to build genuine connections with businesses in the city through real project work. This aimed to improve students' general university experience in Durham, giving them a stronger sense of connection to the city and its business community beyond the university itself, and helping students feel more integrated into Durham as a place, not just as a place of study. Third, local businesses and the wider Durham community benefited as clients of the company. Businesses in Durham, particularly smaller or independent businesses that might otherwise struggle to afford commercial consultancy fees, were able to access consulting support and insight from a student and youth perspective. This helped close a gap that has historically existed between Durham's student population and its local business community, strengthening ties between the university and the city, and giving Durham businesses practical value they might not otherwise have accessed. Taken together, the company's activities during the year strengthened the relationship between Durham's student population and its local business community, creating tangible benefit for students, the wider student experience in Durham, and local businesses alike.
