The directors present their report with the financial statements of the company for the period ended 31 December 2025

Principal activities of the company

Alder Tree (Home Education Centre) CIC was formed after the closure of Alder Bridge Steiner-Waldorf School, by former teachers and parents. While there was clearly strong interest in the local community for the distinctive type of education offered by Alder Bridge, there were not enough families with sufficient means to pay for the education they desired for their children. Therefore it was apparent that Alder Bridge was not viable in its existing form, and had to close in December 2022. The intention with Alder Tree was to find a way to offer the Steiner-Waldorf curriculum at a more affordable cost. This was to be achieved by condensing the curriculum into reduced hours of tuition, and reducing the administrative costs by running the Centre in a way that would avoid the need to register as a School. However during 2023 it became clear that we were not attracting sufficient children to be viable. Also the way we were operating was not in compliance with legislation. So the decision was taken to cease operations at the end of the 2023 academic year. Since then we have been in contact with a group of teachers and parents who have started a new initiative They are offering Steiner based education, initially for the Early Years. We hoped we might be able to work with and support them, but it’s now clear they wish to pursue an independent path. However Alder Bridge Association is now out of administration, and considering what activities it can pursue with its remaining, more limited resources. We are in discussions about how Alder Tree could fit in with this. There appear to be parents who would like to see a new Steiner-Waldorf inspired educational initiative in the area. This could take the form of a home education support centre initially. Alder Tree could provide an independent initiative for this. Alternatively the company could be wound up and its assets passed to Alder Bridge or another entity to forward these aims.
