During the reporting period Mokkha CIC delivered lived-experience-led, trauma-informed support for people rebuilding their lives after contact with the criminal justice system, addiction, homelessness, trauma, social isolation and other forms of disadvantage. Activities included peer mentoring, through-the-gate and post-release support, employability, resilience and community-integration courses, practical welfare support, outreach, digital inclusion, creative recovery activity and accredited or skills-based learning. Funded and contracted work included the Mayor's Safer Communities programme, National Lottery Coming Home programme, Leeds Community Foundation Outsiders project, WSDI Digital Inclusion activity, York Brighter Futures programmes and an MoJ/HMPPS IOM peer-led through-the-gate service. Mokkha also generated earned income from trauma-informed training and consultation, VCSE representation and accredited IAG training. Community benefit was created by combining structured support with practical help that removed barriers to engagement. This included gate collections, peer contact, food-crisis vouchers and parcels, mobile phones and SIM cards, identification, transport support, accessible workshop resources, group food and refreshments, and links into community, training and employment opportunities. York-based activity included women-focused creative and enterprise work, outreach, candle and soap making, journaling, girls-group activity and community events. Paid venue use was limited to St Thomas's and St Wulstan's, with other community venues and spaces provided in kind.
Mokkha's work was shaped through lived-experience participation, peer delivery, participant feedback, focus groups, taster sessions and ongoing discussion with referral and delivery partners. Participants influenced session content, accessibility, transport arrangements, practical support and progression opportunities. Brighter Futures was co-designed with women with lived experience and community partners. The National Lottery Coming Home and through-the-gate work similarly used lived experience and direct feedback to shape practical support around release, stability, connection and progression.
