Turnover
Turnover is recognised at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable for goods and services provided in the normal course of business, and is shown net of VAT and other sales related taxes. The fair value of consideration takes into account trade discounts, settlement discounts and volume rebates.
Turnover is recognised when the significant risks and rewards are considered to have been transferred to the customer, as follows:-
- For sale of goods this on the collection or delivery of the goods.
- For the provision of services this is on completion of the service.
- For events and camping bookings, revenue is recognised on the start date of the event or booking.
Revenue from the sale of gift vouchers is not recognised at the point of sale of the voucher. Revenue is instead recognised at the earlier of the exchange of the voucher as payment against a sale of goods or the expiry date of the voucher (which is usually twelve months after purchase).
Intangible assets
Intangible assets are initially measured at cost. After initial recognition, intangible assets are measured at cost less any accumulated amortisation and any accumulated impairment losses.
Amortisation is provided on all intangible assets at rates to write off the cost or valuation over its expected useful life of 10 years.
Tangible fixed assets
| Freehold property | - |
| Plant and machinery | - |
| Motor vehicles | - |
| Biological assets | - |
Government grants
Government grants in relation to capital expenditure are deferred upon receipt and amortised over the estimated useful life of the associated assets. The estimated useful lives of the assets are based on management's judgement and historical experience with similar assets.

Stocks
Stocks are valued at the lower of cost and net realisable value, after making due allowance for obsolete and slow moving items.
Stocks are stated at the lower of cost and estimated selling price less costs to sell, which is equivalent to the net realisable value. Cost includes materials, direct labour and an attributable proportion of overheads based on normal levels of activity. Provision is made for obsolete, slow-moving or defective items where appropriate.
At each reporting date, an assessment is made for impairment. Any excess of the carrying amount of stocks over its estimated selling price less costs to complete and sell is recognised as an impairment loss in profit or loss. Reversals of impairment losses are also recognised in profit or loss.
Taxation
Taxation for the year comprises current and deferred tax. Tax is recognised in the Statement of Income and Retained Earnings, except to the extent that it relates to items recognised in other comprehensive income or directly in equity.
Current or deferred taxation assets and liabilities are not discounted.
Current tax is recognised at the amount of tax payable using the tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the balance sheet date.
Deferred tax
Deferred tax is recognised in respect of all timing differences that have originated but not reversed at the balance sheet date.
Timing differences arise from the inclusion of income and expenses in tax assessments in periods different from those in which they are recognised in financial statements. Deferred tax is measured using tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the year end and that are expected to apply to the reversal of the timing difference.
Unrelieved tax losses and other deferred tax assets are recognised only to the extent that it is probable that they will be recovered against the reversal of deferred tax liabilities or other future taxable profits.
Hire purchase and leasing commitments
Rentals paid under operating leases are charged to profit or loss on a straight line basis over the period of the lease.
Pension costs and other post-retirement benefits
The company operates a defined contribution pension scheme. Contributions payable to the company's pension scheme are charged to profit or loss in the period to which they relate.
